I thought Sherlock Holmes was a girl

Growing up thinking that Sherlock Holmes was a girl, I thought the movie would disappoint me. I already imagine "her" to be  sophisticated, drop-dead-gorgeous, witty, and smart detective. I should have seen my face in the mirror when I learned Robert Downey Jr. plays Sherlock Holmes. Blame it on Nancy Drew or the name Sherlock, private investigation stories work best for women. (i'm not a feminist.LOL).

So there I was, watching the movie. I though it would bore me. But it didn't. I enjoyed it. Who wouldn't? Downey is a versatile actor who played Sherlock well. Iron man playing Sherlock? No awkwardness. Downey as Sherlock  was funny, a great storyteller, a hero (again), smart on details, and a best actor for that. Well, officially, he got the Best Actor Award last Golden Globes. Well deserved. Bravo!

Hollywood actors carry a certain magic (or talent) on how the characters would work for them and not the other way around. The movie was truly Downey as Sherlock Holmes and not about Downey as a celebrity who happened to represent Sherlock (or its creator). When you see the movie, you see Sherlock and not Iron Man or Downey. At least, that's how i see it.

But my female Sherlock Holmes also materialized through Irene Adler.. plus Rachel Mcadams. She was this sophisticated, drop-dead-gorgeous, witty, and smart.. ahem, "world class criminal". And oh, Dr. Watson, you're also great ;)

The movie is a double thumbs-up!
